Jeff Claunch began his career with Waste Management, Inc. (“WMI”) where he held various operational and managerial positions with WMI and subsidiaries in Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee. He later became part owner and GM of Service Contractors, Inc., which he built and subsequently sold to an affiliate of WMI in 1990. He then joined TransAmerican Waste Industries, Inc. (“TWI”) as Director of Transportation where he ran TWI’s collection, recycling and transfer operations before being promoted to President of TWI Alabama.

While President of TWI Alabama, Claunch managed five landfills, three transfer stations and a number of hauling operations, as well as marketing, project development and governmental relations throughout Alabama. Upon sale of TWI to WMI he joined Liberty Waste, Inc. as Director of Acquisitions and Market Development for the southeastern US.

He joined River Birch, Inc. as GM and was responsible for building, opening and operating a new MSW landfill serving the New Orleans area. He successfully completed five permit modifications and the facility was accepting over 2,000 tons per day of municipal and industrial waste before Claunch and Rice co-founded Sunbelt Environmental, Inc. (“Sunbelt”) in early 2000.

Sunbelt was a pure startup that Claunch, Rice and others began with one C&D landfill. By the time of the company’s successful sale in 2007, Sunbelt owned three landfills, 54 trucks and over 5,000 waste containers and had an uninterrupted presence on the Gulf Coast from east of Panama City to Gulf Shores, Alabama.

In 2008 Claunch founded Bluewater Environmental (which later changed its name to EcoSouth Services, LLC), and successfully permitted a C&D/industrial landfill in the Florida Panhandle. In 2012 EcoSouth acquired a permitted, but dormant, C&D/industrial landfill in the Mobile area and this site opened for business in October 2013. In 2010 Claunch and EcoSouth became affiliated with Rice Advisory to seek investment, consulting and advisory opportunities in the solid waste sector.

Claunch earned a BS in Business Management from the University of North Alabama in 1985.
